Congenital penile torsion

A congenital penile torsion causes a baby boy’s penis to appear to be rotated – or twisted – on its axis.

Overview

What is a congenital penile torsion?

Pediatric penile torsion is a fairly common congenital (present at birth) condition that can affect any male baby. This condition causes the penis to appear to be rotated – or twisted – on its axis.

Almost always, this twist occurs to the left (counter-clockwise). Penile torsion can range from mild to severe and has not been shown to affect sexual function or reproduction.
