MyChart Bedside FAQs
What is MyChart Bedside?
During a hospital stay, MyChart Bedside lets you quickly access important health information, attend video appointments, schedule meals and more.
If you already have a Children’s Health MyChart account, you will automatically see the Bedside view when you go to the admitted patient’s profile from the Children’s Health app or the MyChart mobile app.
If you do not have a Children’s Health MyChart account, you can still access Bedside on a hospital-issued tablet, free of charge, during the patient’s hospital stay.
Using the Bedside Tablet
Getting Started
If you would like to use a hospital-issued tablet during your stay and there is no tablet in your hospital room, ask a nurse for a Bedside tablet.
To activate the tablet, open Bedside and enter the patient’s date of birth and an activation code. You may have received this code in an email or text message, or from a nurse. You can also find this code in your MyChart health feed.
After you activate the tablet, you’ll create a 4- to 10-digit PIN. You’ll use this PIN each time you log into Bedside on the tablet. Each person with authorized access to the patient’s MyChart account will have their own profile on the Bedside tablet and can set up their own PIN.
Hold the tablet in landscape mode (sideways) for the best view of the Bedside app. Scroll through menu items on the left side of the screen to see information about the hospital stay, along with links to helpful resources.
Do I need to enter my PIN to use the Bedside tablet?
Yes, you will enter your PIN to use the Bedside tablet throughout your child’s stay. To protect the privacy and security of your information, you will automatically be logged out of the tablet after 15 minutes of inactivity. You will be required to enter your PIN again to use the tablet.
What if I forget my PIN?
You will have 5 chances to enter your correct PIN before being locked out of Bedside. Your nurse will be able to help you reset your PIN.
How do I turn on the tablet?
To turn the hospital-issued tablet on, press and hold the Power/Lock Key for a few seconds. When the tablet turns on, the home screen appears. Do not power off/turn the tablet off. If the tablet needs to be charged, ask a member of your hospital care team for help.
How do I control the volume on the Bedside tablet?
To control the volume, unlock the device and press the volume keys on the top side of the tablet (next to the power button). Pressing the volume keys will open a popup sound menu on the tablet screen that you can also adjust with your finger by scrolling up or down. If you still cannot hear after adjusting the volume, please ask a care team member for assistance.
How do I change the language settings to Spanish on the Bedside tablet?
If you need to view the Bedside tablet in Spanish, go to the tablet home screen using the square button at the bottom of the screen. Select the settings icon in the top righthand corner of the tablet’s home screen to view the tablet settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings menu on the left of the Settings screen and select “Language”. The first entry in the Languages screen is the language currently being used for the Bedside tablet, “English (United States)”.
If “Español (Estados Unidos)” is not already listed as a language to select from, click the “Add language” option. This shows a list of all the available display languages you can use on the tablet. Select “Español (Estados Unidos)” as your preferred language. You will be returned to the Languages screen where “Español (Estados Unidos)” is instantly added to the languages list.
Tap and hold the “Español (Estados Unidos)” option and drag it to the top of the languages list. You should see the tablet language automatically change from English to Spanish.
Note: MyChart Bedside is only available in English and Spanish.
What if my tablet stops working?
Tell a hospital care team member about any issues with the tablet so that they can help.
Are other apps allowed on the hospital provided tablet?
No. Only the apps that are preloaded on the tablet can be used. The tablet is not setup to download apps.
Can I use the Internet on the tablet?
To protect patient information, the hospital-issued tablets do not have access to the internet except for specific Bedside features.
What if I accidentally take the tablet home?
The Bedside tablet is the property of Children’s Health and must stay in the patient’s room during their hospital stay. The tablet will not work outside the hospital. If you accidentally take the tablet home, please return it to our Security desk. You are responsible to pay for any loss of or damage to the tablet.

What test results will I see in Bedside?
Bedside shows results of tests administered during a hospital stay. Some test may take days or weeks before we have results. You can find available test results in the My Health section.
If you have a question about a test result, ask your hospital care team. If your nurse cannot answer your question, they will either make sure that it’s answered during daily rounds or will ask your doctor to speak with you.
Can I print from Bedside?
You cannot print from the tablet. If you access Bedside from the Children’s Health app or the MyChart mobile app, you can print by tapping the 3 dots at the top of the screen.
What do I do if the information in Bedside is incomplete or not correct?
If the information you see in Bedside does not seem right, or you have a question about what you see, please tell your doctor or nurse care team about your concerns.
Where does the information in Bedside go after I leave the hospital? Can it be seen by anyone else?
All information on the Bedside tablet is erased when you leave the hospital. The clinical information about the hospital stay is stored in the patient’s health record. Any notes, education materials, and health information stored in MyChart Bedside will be available in your Children’s Health MyChart account.
Bedside Features
Home (Tablet)
The Bedside home screen contains general information about the current hospital stay. For example, you will see the patient’s last set of vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and breathing rate), a list of problems or diagnoses that are being watched in the hospital, and depending on whether you have proxy access, a current list of the medicines being given in the hospital.
The list of problems/diagnoses on the Home screen comes from information entered by the hospital care team for the current hospital stay. It will not list health concerns that are not being actively watched during this hospital stay. If you do not see a problem/diagnosis listed that you feel should be addressed during the hospital stay, please talk about this with your hospital care team
Happening Soon
Happening Soon shows the patient’s daily schedule. You can view events since the patient’s admission date and look ahead for upcoming events such as:
Scheduled procedures and tests (blood draws, x-rays)
Medicine administrations
Upcoming hospital appointments (therapy services, visits from other clinicians)
Drag your finger across the screen to the right to see earlier events. Drag your finger to the left to see future events.
Happening Soon may not include all possible events.
Taking Care of Me
In Taking Care of Me you can learn more about the patient’s current hospital care team. You can see each care team member’s role, photo and biography.
Tap on a photo or name to learn more about a care team member.
I Would Like
I Would Like lets you request comfort items like an extra blanket or services like assistance taking a walk or meal tray removal.
This is not meant for urgent communication with your hospital care team. If the patient needs immediate medical attention, please use the call light at your bed.
My Health
My health gives you up-to-date health information at a glance, such as recent vital signs and test results. Select any item in My health to see more information and trends over the hospital stay. When the patient is under the age of 14, only their proxy will see My health.
To Learn
Tap an education topic to review the education information. If you have reviewed a section of Patient Education and understand it, tap the “I understand” checkmark icon at the end of that section. This will let the staff know that you have reviewed the material and understand it.
If you have questions about a section of your Patient Education, tap the “I have questions” question mark icon at the end of the section. This will let the staff know to speak with you and answer your questions.
Patient Education
Patient Education gives you education resources from your hospital care team so you can learn about the patient’s care or condition on your own as you have time during the stay. These materials may be documents, videos or other resources.
This feature does NOT replace in-person review and education with your nurse and other care team members, nor does it replace the chance to ask questions and share any concerns you may have.
