College volunteer program

Children’s Health℠ depends on the invaluable contributions of volunteers. Through the College Volunteer Program, college students perform a variety of roles to benefit our young patients and their families on the Dallas campus.

Volunteering provides the opportunity for college students to gain valuable health care experience, learn new skills, make friends and serve people who need their help. College volunteers at Children's Health help patients and their families through direct patient care, customer service and staff support. Please note that our volunteers provide services that are strictly non-clinical and not permitted to shadow nurses, doctors and clinicians or observe procedures.

College Volunteer requirements

Select a day and time from the shift options below. You will attend the same shift each week throughout the semester.

Volunteers, regardless of where they serve, are asked to comply with the following requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a college or university
Applicants must commit to 10 of 13 scheduled shifts during the semester. Please only apply to a session if you can guarantee attendance for required commitment.
College Volunteer Uniform: Adult volunteer polo shirt, smock, or vest, khaki or black pants, closed-toed shoes, and volunteer badge.

Steps to becoming a college volunteer

2. Complete the interview process

3. Complete online training courses

4. Attend a Welcome Session

5. Complete a new volunteer health check with the Children’s Health

Occupational Health and Wellness Department. Please note, school records will not be accepted. The health check will include the following requirements:

An annual TB test
Flu vaccination (during flu season)
Proof of MMR vaccination series or positive blood titer
Proof of Varicella vaccination series or positive blood titer
Proof of Tdap or Td within the past 10 years
Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination series and positive blood titer

Spring Semester: February 1^st through April 30^th
Fall Semester: September 7^th through December 3^rd

Volunteer Shifts for College Students

Students will attend 10 of 13 scheduled shifts, volunteering one day a week for three to four hours, for a minimum of 30 service hours per semester.

You will be able to select a day and time from the shift options below. You will attend the same shift each week throughout the semester.

Monday-Thursday:
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Friday-Sunday:
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
